School Wildlife Garden, Hackney

Two new gardens were designed in previously unused areas of this primary school as part of a transformation of the grounds as a whole. The first is a wildlife garden, a dedicated outdoor classroom where the children can get up close to nature. It includes a new pond with pond-dipping platform, ‘creepy crawly’ towers with habitats for mini-beasts, a log pile and sustainable, biodiverse planting to attract birds and insects all the year round.

Elsewhere, a new nursery garden provides a play area with artificial grass and new play equipment, planting areas for the children to experiment in, and an extensive new raised border with vibrant perennials, fluffy grasses and scented plants.
