This small, Hackney garden, owned by a busy professional woman, felt dark, narrow and oppressive. The steps to the upper level were steep and difficult to navigate, and the plants were huge and overwhelming.
We created an inviting space with a more open feel, that would also maximise the evening sun at the end of the garden. The brick edging and central feature in the sandstone paving link back to the yellow stock brick of the house. Generous steps take you through the garden towards a glinting sheet of water falling into a stone bowl from a brick wall. The planting is light, airy and low maintenance.
